We know that there are a lot of web designers out there to choose from, and we are truly humbled that so many choose us! There are far fewer designers with the amount of experience we have, and fewer still who create custom designed websites, with a focus on sites for authors and other creators.
What does this experience mean for you, and why should you care?
Transparent, dependable scheduling
One thing we hear all of the time from clients who previously worked with other designers is that they were told work would start right away, but sometimes 6 months or a year later, they still did not have a website to show for it.
When you hire us, we will work with you to choose a Start date for your project – the next opening on our calendar that also works with your schedule. We have never missed a start date! If you are on our calendar, we will be ready and excited to get started on your website on that day, and you will have a brand new website about a week later! (For very large sites it can be longer, but we will tell you the timeline before you schedule.)
Because we only work on 1-2 websites at a time, we are able to be laser-focussed on the project at hand. No months long delays, no dropped communications.
Speaking of communication …
We also frequently hear horror stories of unresponsive designers — before, during, and after a project — emails that take weeks to get a response, if they ever get a response at all. We don’t play that way. We like squeaky clean inboxes, and respond immediately or same day whenever humanly possible. If you have a question, we want you to have the answer as soon as possible!
Clearly defined (and communicated) process
We have been doing this for a long time, and are constantly tweaking our process to give you the best service (and results!) possible.
Before the project: Once you have a start date, we send you very complete information about what we need, when we need it, and how to get it to us. We also send you periodic reminders, and even a handy dandy Final Checklist and reminder of what you can expect during the time we are working on your site!
During the project: We will let you know every step of the way what we are doing, when you can expect the next step, and what that next step will be. We will get your feedback and approval on every part of the design and build before it goes live!
After the project: We are still here whenever you might need us! See “After Care” below.
Custom + Experience
Many web designers use pre-made templates and page builders to create websites. Many, many of them don’t really understand the mechanics behind websites. They know how to drag and drop and choose from some preset options. You may get a nice, if generic, website. But what if you want something to work a little differently, look a little more special? What if something breaks? Designers who use pre-made options rarely know how to do anything slightly different, and don’t know how to fix problems that may arise.
We have done and seen it all (well, almost all). 😉 There are some things that are not in our wheelhouse, but they are pretty few and far between. If now, or 5 years from now, something breaks, we know how to fix it. If we don’t, we know how to figure it out.
Easy to Use
Need to tweak your text, add a book, announce an event? We are always happy to do it for you, but we also give you detailed directions for how to do all of these things yourself!
Those pre-made, pagebuilder websites mentioned in the section above? They are so hard to manage, and even easier to break!
We have spent years finding ways to make it as easy as possible for you to manage your own content, and are always here to help!
After Care
As mentioned above, we will not disappear after your site is done. We have talked to countless people over the years who hired someone else, got a website, had issues, and the original designer was just … gone. Or didn’t answer emails. Or is just not interested in helping.
